Los Gatos Cin-Cin pours wines from northern climes

Los Gatos Cin-Cin Wine Bar wine tasting event: Austrian & German wines

On this day, the entire restaurant was dedicated to the tasters, so many enjoyed their sips of wine and food treats at tables in the adjacent room. Very elegant!

I liked the premise from the moment I heard it….a bountiful tasting of German and Austrian wine, coupled with servings of delectable Cin-Cin Wine Bar snacks in the beauty and comfort of lovely Los Gatos. What’s not to like about that?

So, when was the last time you tasted a German or Austrian wine? I’m supposing it’s been more than a decade for me. Which is why the idea so appeals. It’s a chance to take a high-speed detour off your usual path and onto the Autobahn, destination northern climes. In the western hemisphere, these vineyards would reside in Canada.

Los Gatos Cin-Cin Wine Bar hosts wine tasting: Austrian and German wines

Cin-Cin co-proprietor Lisa Rhorer, at right, is the mastermind of the Austrian & German Wine Tasting. She also manned (womaned?) one of three pouring tables, and sure looked to be having fun introducing folks to new tastes.

These vines must be hearty stock. In Austria, they produce “crisp, aromatic, full body, refined character” wines, according to the event invitation.

Here’s an eye-opener for me: “Gruner Veltliner is the flagship of Austria, earning international praise. Today’s most influential wine writers have rated Gruner Veltliner as one of the great white wines of the world.” Who knew? Certainly not me.

As is I left another great Los Gatos wine event and stepped into the 3rd of February 70 degree late-afternoon warmth, I couldn’t help but think how many other Americans, now blanketed in snow, would love the balmy respite of our fair town and all it’s hidden treasures. Lucky us.

Another informative and enticing message. Wish I could join everyone for at least one glass of Austrian and one glass of German wine.
