Writing stories about the local “destination” scene is nearly always fun. Visiting wineries, sampling delicious wine and food, meeting interesting people, the list goes on. It’s all good.
And then once in a while something unusual and wonderful happens, like a Besos Lingerie Fashion Show, where I am the invited photographer. Gail Gerbode, the intrepid local owner, attracted about 75 folks to the outdoor courtyard behind Besos and neighbor Black Cat Hats. Gail supplied the lingerie and models and Janet Dashiell of Black Cat bedecked the models with matched millinery to add that touch of “je ne sais quoi” to the ensemble.
Apparently, much of Gail’s collection is sourced from South America, which I fantasize imbues it with a touch of extra Latin flair. I am not sufficiently learned to comment of the origins of the style, however I can report that from one man’s point of view, they all succeeded in showcasing the ladies and all of their assets. I barely had time to catch my breath as the models one after another promenaded confidently around the raised edge of the courtyard’s central planter, using the lamp posts to great effect.
Altogether a fun half hour show preceded and followed by wine from local Santa Cruz Mountains winery, Silver Mountain Vineyards and snacks, chatter and shopping. It all made for a wonderfully memorable late-July Thursday evening in downtown Los Gatos.
